Life Support Members
Information for members who rely on life-support equipment during power outages.
Who Should Register
Electricity can be a lifeline for family members or friends who use life support equipment. Members who rely on electricity to operate medically necessary equipment should contact their physician to complete and sign the Itasca-Mantrap Life Support Registration Form.
- Itasca-Mantrap will attempt to notify members by phone prior to a planned outage – allowing members to make alternative arrangements, if necessary.
- In the event of an unplanned outage, members with critical health issues should always be prepared with back-up plans in case of an outage.
During an outage, Itasca-Mantrap’s priority is to restore power safely and efficiently. Crews focus first on repairs that will restore service to the greatest number of members, then continue working until all members are restored. Members who rely on life support equipment will be prioritized as soon as conditions allow.
- Consider alternative living arrangements or a backup power source.
- In some cases, a generator may be a suitable option. Members are responsible for safely installing, operating and maintaining any generator.
- If your medical equipment includes a battery backup, make sure it is regularly charged and tested.
