OPEN POSITIONS:
Title: Temporary Seasonal Lineworker Reports to: Operations Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: May 2025
Summary:
To gain working knowledge, training, and experience in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines in a safe, reliable and timely manner which will provide Itasca-Mantrap members safe, reliable electric service.
Key Responsibilities
· Performs assigned work as a crew member under minimum supervision and in compliance with established REA, NESC, and I-M specifications, codes, safety rules, and general operating procedures.
o Follows established steps and procedures as directed, checking, if necessary, with a Lead Lineman or Operations Manager when a departure from established methods or orders is required.
o Develops a good working knowledge of I-M and RUS construction specifications; federal, state, and local codes; and the internal I-M support processes.
o Actively participates in required crew job briefing discussions.
· Performs work on crews as assigned in construction of new overhead 1, 2, or 3-phase lines, including framing, setting and anchoring poles; stringing wires; hanging overhead equipment; hot line work; loading/unloading materials; and completing the job according to the specifications and orders in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.
o Sets poles and anchors using methods to avoid damage to any underground utilities; work is performed according to established sequences and steps in construction.
o Contributes to the work effort by offering help and procedural guidance to others on the crew as appropriate or required to ensure a safe, reliable, and timely result.
o Takes responsibility for others on the crew in absence of a Lead lineman with emphasis on safety and following established procedures.
· Performs work on crews as assigned in construction of new single or three-phase underground lines, including making up transformers and underground cable; burying wire or cable; setting up switching cabinets; hot line work; loading/unloading material; and completing the job according to the specifications and orders in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.
o Ensures that make-up work on cable, transformers, and switch gear is correct and will perform as expected.
o Restores landscaped area to its original condition, leaving a good impression of I-M and its field personnel.
· Maintains the overhead and underground electrical distribution systems as scheduled or required, with the goal to restore service as safely and promptly as possible.
o Planned line outages are scheduled in a manner to minimize interruption of service, with notification of members and the I-M office.
o Completes work on lines with the least amount of property disturbance possible.
· Operates all line construction equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derrick trucks, truck cranes, vibra-plows, backhoes, and dozers in a safe, reliable manner at all times in compliance with I-M standards and procedures.
o Attends to safety and operation of equipment thereby reducing accidents and hazards on or around the work site.
· May assist with planned and unplanned line outages.
· Seeks opportunities to learn and keep current on overall operations, procedures, and technology which relate closely to the position.
o Effectively utilizes the electronic mapping system, staking sheets, material pick lists, work orders, job orders, and recordkeeping processes.
o Maintains a good working knowledge of how I-M is organized and how operations interact toward a coordinated work effort.
o Contributes to the coordinated effort by carrying out assigned duties and accountabilities in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
· Participates actively in established safety training and instruction programs, job tailgate meetings, and consistently understands and applies what is presented in terms of safety codes, rules, and procedures.
o Becomes skilled in first aid, CPR, and pole-top rescue procedures necessary to help ensure a prompt response in case of an accident or emergency.
o Recognizes the interdependency of crew members and absolute necessity for safe actions on the job.
o Consistently applies safety practices on the job to help minimize accidents and hazards to I-M personnel and the general public at a construction site or in transit to or from a work site.
· Utilize technology, such as an iPad, for the electronic mapping system, staking sheets, material pick lists, work orders, job orders, timesheets, and recordkeeping processes.
· Recommends changes in procedures and practices to improve productivity and quality with no loss of safety, reliability, or service standards to I-M members.
o Suggestions are made with the goal of providing the best possible levels of service at a reasonable cost.
· Maintains a good working relationship with members and general public on a consistent basis. Positive image of the cooperative is enhanced by good public relations.
· Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.

Job Criteria:
Education & Experience:
· Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
· Good driving record and valid health card required
· Completion or in progress of accredited Lineworker program
· First Aid and CPR certified required

Working Conditions:
Interacts with all I-M personnel providing effective verbal and written communication. Safely works on or near energized electrical lines, following all established safety procedures designed to avoid electrical contact to self and the public. Climbs poles or stands in a hydraulic bucket, often working in awkward positions. Must be able to physically perform pole top rescue. Frequently lifts materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Excavates, works around noisy equipment, and visually inspects and maintains all types of equipment and tools. Occasionally works after hours, weekends, or holidays to install, maintain, or repair both overhead and underground lines. Works outdoors with great physical exertion, often in poor weather conditions. Works on uneven terrain in fields and along roads, often encountering vehicular traffic.
Compensation & Benefits:
The starting pay range for this position is $25-$30 per hour. This position qualifies for the benefit of paid time off. Final compensation is based on the candidate’s specific education, experience, knowledge, skills
