Sierra Wroolie Returns from Washington, D.C.
Itasca-Mantrap sponsors one local high school student to attend an unforgettable all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. every year. The contest is open to sophomores and juniors who live in the Itasca-Mantrap service area.
This year, Sierra Wroolie joined over 1,800 students from across the United States in Washington, D.C. to learn more about our nation’s history, see American government in action and tour famous historical monuments. Students had an opportunity to meet and ask questions of their legislators and learn more about the importance of electric cooperatives.
2019 Itasca-Mantrap Youth Tour Delegate Sierra Wroolie reflects on her time spent on the Youth Tour and shares, “The Washington, D.C. Youth Tour was amazing! I met people who will be lifelong friends. I loved every minute of the experience and would give anything to go back. The marines museum and all of the monuments and memorials were breathtaking and very humbling. Capital hill was insane. It was awesome to be around so many people who knew so much about politics. It was especially cool to watch all of the senators voting. Hello Dolly was a crowd favorite and had everyone singing and laughing. The seminars were pretty neat too, especially my group’s skit about the community power of cooperatives with delegates from Montana and North Dakota. Thank you for choosing me as your Youth Tour delegate Itasca-Mantrap!!”
To be eligible for a chance to win, students must complete an application. Finalists will then be interviewed before a selection is made. Applications for Youth Tour 2020 will be available January 2020. Call the Itasca-Mantrap office for more information.
